Collection of Crocodile Head Boat Prows
A collection of three carved wood crocodile head boat prows from Papua New Guinea. These mid-20th Papua New Guinean boat prows have been carved out of wood and each feature the head of a crocodile. Each are varying in size, making a handsome looking collection, and are displayed upon a custom black iron stand. The carvings on the prows are quite detailed down to the teeth and textured skin of the crocodile. Villagers in Papua New Guinea would adorn their canoes with such prows as they traveled the inland rivers, swap lands, lagoons and coastal regions of their territories. Papua New Guinea is a very rugged country with few roads so these canoes were an essential mode of transportation. A collection of these magnificent New Guinea crocodile prows would look amazing adorning a console or occasional table!
