Papua New Guinea Lumi Shield on Iron Stand
A Papua New Guinea carved-wood Lumi shield from the mid 20th century. This vintage war shield from the West Sepik region, the northwesternmost province of Papua New Guinea (now referred to as Sandaun Province), features the typical kidney-shaped form often associated with these shields, which has been adorn with a raised abstract design made up of lines and spirals. Arm straps are found at the back of the shield. This Lumi tribal shield is presented upon a custom black iron stand, giving it new life as a unique and intriguing decorative art piece for the home or office.
