A large-sized American carved wood wall plaque from the 19th century. This antique wall decoration features a horizontally positioned plaque, which is approximately 6.5 feet in length, with a beautiful display of three dimensional carvings depicting a scrolling acanthus leaf motif at it's crest, and acanthus garland heavily framing the upper portions of the plaque. The fragment is carved with lovely fluidity and movement. The wood, with it's old patina full of character and charm, is accented with traces of gilt. This 19th century acanthus-carved wall plaque would be perfect in a living room, as a focal point adding architectural interest, or perhaps centered over a bed making a great statement piece for a headboard.
