18th C. French Petit Enfant Trumeau Mirror

18th C. French Petit Enfant Trumeau Mirror | Item# 2360

32"width 2"depth 76"height

A French neoclassic carved and painted wood trumeau mirror from the 18th century. This antique mirror from France has the tall rectangular-shape, typical of trumeau design, with wooden top section adorn with neoclassical carved bow-ties and garland swags, over an oval-shaped plaque with petit enfant (or small children) at play at its center. The glass below is a segmented two-panel mirror (which interesting fact, it was common for glass to be cut into smaller pieces and framed together for the illusion of one, due to a high taxation of glass during this time) that is set within an inner frame with egg-n-dart exterior and petite bead trim butting up next to the glass at the inner surround. Primary color are earthy hues of gray, taupe and beige- which a lot of the paint is original, but there have been touch ups. Also please note that the mirror is antique, but not original. This 18th century French neoclassical pier or trumeau mirror, as the name suggests, would work well between a pair of windows or doors, and stands approximately 6.25 feet in height.

Price: $4,750.
