19th C. French Mirror in Clean/Linear Lines
A French rectangular wall mirror with its original glass, from the 19th century. This antique mirror from France features a clean/minimalist design with the rectangular-shaped wood frame comprised of a linear fluted carving about the surround. The wood retains its original finish and has a lovely old patina throughout. The glass mirror is original and is in two pieces (as shown in our secondary images). An interesting historical tidbit on why mirrors were often in two parts like this is because it was common for glass to be cut into smaller pieces and framed together for the illusion of one, due to a high taxation of glass during this time. This 19th century French flute-carved mirror is nicely-sized at approximately 3 feet in width, and just shy of 4.5 feet in height.
