A French rectangular wall mirror in black and gilt wood surround from the 19th century. This antique mirror from France features it's original antiqued glass within a carved and molded wood frame adorn with gilded lambs tongue molding, floral medallions set at each corner, and carved beaded trimming along the inner surround. The outer frame is black with clean lines about the perimeter edges. The glass mirror is original and in two pieces (as shown in our secondary images). An interesting fact is that it was common practice for glass to be cut into smaller pieces, and framed together for the illusion of one, due to a high taxation of glass during this time. The painted and gilt wood frame has a lovely patina with wonderful bits of chipping crackling to the finish. This 19th century French mirror, just over four feet in height, will make for a very stylish addition to your home.
