French 19th C. Gilt Mirror w/Original Glass

French 19th C. Gilt Mirror w/Original Glass | Item# 2566

31"width 1.5"depth 58.75"height

A French carved and gilt wall mirror, with its original glass, from the 19th century. This antique mirror from France has a rectangular-shaped wood frame with cleanly designed outer perimeter, a carved ribbon trim about the frames center, and a petite bead carved trim about the inner surround, next to the glass. The wood retains its original finish and has a lovely old patina throughout. The glass mirror is original and is in two pieces (as shown in our secondary images). The upper section of mirror has a distinctly aged/wavy look, and the lower section is darker in appearance. An interesting historical tidbit on why mirrors were often in two parts like this is because it was common for glass to be cut into smaller pieces and framed together for the illusion of one, due to a high taxation of glass during this time. This 19th century French gilt wall mirror is approximately 2.5 feet in width, and just shy of 5 feet in height.

Price: $4,900.
