Pair Small Walnut Commodes, 18th C. Italy
A pair of small-sized Italian walnut wood side chests from the 18th century. These antique cabinets from Italy have rectangular-shaped tops, with hand-carved egg-and-dart trim along their undersides, which rests atop their cases each adorn in recessed panels, stacked molding, and carved frieze decorating their front-sides. A single drawer is positioned directly above the main cabinet door. The chests are presented upon stacked molding at base, with open space in center front creating a visual of bracket feet. The rich walnut wood has a lovely patina, showing their prior history and use. Note that the back-sides remain unfinished, making best use of these pieces to be placed against a wall. This pair of 18th century Italian walnut commodes would make perfect side-chests sofa or as nightstands in a bedroom.
