Early 19th C. Italian Greek Key Motif Chest
This Item Is ClosedAn Italian carved and painted wood raised chest of two drawers from the early 19th century. This antique chest from Italy features a rectangular-shaped top, over a nicely decorated case which houses two full-sized drawers, flanked within fluted side posts, and gracefully raised upon cylindrical legs with fluted carvings, which taper gently towards their peg-style feet. Fluted details are also found along the rear side posts, mimicking the front, drawer fronts and sides are whimsically paneled with circular carvings at their center, and the straight-line skirt is fabulously adorn in a repeating Greek key pattern about three sides. The palette reads neutral from a distance, but is comprised of shades of blue, gray, and cream, which still allows wood undertones to show through from beneath, and highlighted in taupe/brown accent trim. This early 19th century Italian raised chest would work really well in a bedroom as a dresser or bedside table, or perhaps in a foyer or living area with decorative items atop and storage within.
