18th C. French Serpentine Carved Oak Chest
A French Neoclassical carved serpentine-front chest of drawers from the 18th century. This antique commode from France features a rectangular shaped top with serpentine front lines, which mimic the movement of the case beneath. Front side posts are rounded and adorn with fluted and floral carvings. The case is fitted with three nicely dovetailed drawers, each framed with a pair of rectangular trimmed panels and metal roped-ring pulls, which flank an elaborately carved scrolling central plaque with escutcheon at it's center. The skirt is decorated with a three-dimensionally carved foliage garland hanging down from it's center front. The chest is raised on carved cylindrical legs, which taper gently towards their feet in the front, and straight back legs. This lovely 18th century French chest has a bleached wood finish, with trim details in a soft, pale blue tone.
