English Carlton House Desk, Early 20th C.
An English Carlton House style desk with organizational hutch from the early 20th century. This antique desk from England, whose style is often referred to as a "Carlton House desk", originated from a table model design which was commissioned by the Prince of Wales, later George IV, in the 1790's for the Carlton House. The term describes a table, with an additional top structure made up of varying storage compartments, which encloses the desk's writing area at back and sides, in a u-shaped fashion. The apron of the desk houses two half-drawers, while the upper hutch houses an additional ten drawers, plus two pull out compartments which are located behind the center door. Needless to say, there is ample storage built into this desk! The upper hutch has a flat top, allowing items to be safely displayed atop. The wood has a handsome black finish and aged patina. Bronze drawer front hardware and feet add further embellishments. The top can be lifted off of the desk, so that it breaks down into two pieces, allowing for easier transport and installation. This antique English Carlton House style desk would be a fabulous addition (which can be floated within a room should your design call for it) to any home office or living space. Additionally, the desk with all of it's great storage, would lend itself to function beautifully as a dressing table.Dimensions
