French Louis XV Rococo Secretary, C. 1760
A French Louis XV period Rococo secretary with hidden compartment, circa 1760. This antique French writing desk features a slant-leaf front with elegant plaque shaped carved panel, when dropped down into a desk top position, opens to reveal two rolls of smaller drawers for storage. The desk top still retains it's original leather pad within the writing area. The skirt houses a pair of small drawers, flanking a faux drawer between them, each adorn with a curvy raised trim panel and escutcheon at their center. Exciting and note-worthy is that the lower middle drawer on the inside of the desk can be taken out to reveal a hidden storage compartment beneath. This piece has an accolade carved skirt, raised paneled sides and backside, and is presented upon four gracefully curved legs which terminate into hoof feet. There is some slight warping along the front leaf within the panel (which we feel does not effect the integrity of this piece, please see images for further details on condition. And the upper row of drawers at inside are missing, which now creates and acts an open shelf space across the top. This French Louis XV period Rococo secretary is adorn on all sides, making it the perfect piece to be floated within a room, creating the perfect work space for a notebook computer in a small home office, or simply a beautiful piece of stand alone furniture that would enhance the decor within in any room. .
