Jackie O Estate Buffet à Deux-Corps
A lovely antique Buffet à Deux-Corps cabinet from the estate of Jacqueline Lee "Jackie" Kennedy Onassis. This tall French Louis XV / XVI style transitional buffet cabinet, from the turn of the 18th and 19th century, features a slightly overhanging molded cornice with rounded edges, atop an upper case adorn in a motif of beautiful flowers & gardening items (hat and shovel), along with a pair of three-dimensionally carved doves at top center of doors. The upper doors, with their shapely panel fronts, open to reveal adjustable shelving within, and are flanked within rounded, garland-carved side posts. The lower chase houses a shorter set of doors, with complimentary carved panels and side posts. The cabinet has a scalloped skirt along three sides, and is presented upon four petite carved legs. This French buffet à deux-corps cabinet (which literally translates to “buffet with two bodies”) breaks down into two pieces, allowing for easier transport and installation. The oak wood has a polychrome painted finish, with a buttercream yellow coloring, and green & off white accents. Please note that the left rear foot has some losses. This tall antique French cabinet came out of Jaqueline Kennedy's NYC apartment, and was purchased from a Sotheby's auction in 2005. The catalog (which is shown in an additional image) along with all documentation, including the receipt, shall accompany this very special piece.
