An Italian raised side chest with single door and original paint from the early 19th century. This antique painted wood cabinet from France features a shapely-edged top which rests above a case which houses a single door at front, which has been decoratively painted with a pair of faux-drawers in a sweet foliage and garland motif with ribbon at center. The sides are also artfully painted in a floral motif. This chest has a gracefully carved skirt and is raised upon four cabriole legs. This piece retains it's original paint in various shades, primarily in green and blue, with a lovely old patina; a beautiful reflection of it's age and use. The top has a scraped finish with more of the natural wood showing through. This early 19th century Italian petite cabinet would work well as an end table, in an entry hall, or perhaps as a sweet place to store toiletries in a powder room.
