Spanish Cassone w/Flip Top, Early 18th C.
A Spanish large size carved-wood coffer with unique flip top, from the early 18th century. This antique trunk from Spain features a long rectangular-shaped top, which when raised, shows a carved underside that can be rested against a wall to create more visual height and give this piece a bench-like presence. Beneath the upper top, a secondary wood lid rests above a beautifully carved case adorn with accent panels with dual arches within their centers, and vertical leaf garland trims. This case piece is presented upon four carved feet which project at an angled, outward fashion. The trunk's interior offers a large open storage space. There is beautiful aging throughout, and a natural bleaching which occurs towards the lower portion of this piece- a reflection of its decades old age and history. Please note that there are some wood losses at feet (see additional images for further detail on condition.) The back-side of this piece remains un-decorated, therefore best use would be against a wall. This early 18th century Spanish coffer, with it's uniquely carved top adding nice height against a wall, will make a fabulous case piece within in an entry or family/living room, offering plentiful storage within.
