French Chest w/Fabulous Trim, Early 19th C.
This Item Is Is SoldA French elegantly carved-wood dressing chest of three drawers and upper hidden storage, from the early 19th century. This antique wood chest from France features Neoclassic style design with outline and trim in a variety of beautifully-carved ribbons, garlands, entwined-circles, and bead-and-barrel accents. The top corners and front side posts are soft and rounded. The top houses a hidden compartment at top, which when raised, reveals hidden recessed storage and 5 small drawers (see photos). The case is fitted with three graduated drawers, with ring pulls and escutcheon hardware (a later addition). There are delicately carved sunflowers carved in the skirt just above the front legs, and center skirt is finely embellished with a pair of crossing leafy limbs that are pierce-carved at front. This chest is presented on nicely trimmed blunt arrow front feet and block feet at rear. This piece has a very soft gray/blue wash with cream accents. Note that there is some warping on the drawer fronts. Please see additional images for more detail. This early 19th century French chest, with its hidden storage and exquisitely carved trim accents, will be the perfect dressing chest for your bedroom- or perhaps use it in an office as a lovely place to store away supplies and what-nots.
