French Period Neoclassical Marble Top Chest
A French Neoclassic carved-wood chest of drawers with marble top from the early 19th century. This antique commode from France features a merlot marble top, resting upon a beautifully carved case, with subtle serpentine-shape, that houses a pair of drawers, and is raised upon fluted conical legs. Fluted carvings accent each canted front side posts, and underside of top at each far side of chest. Each of the decoratively-raised panel drawer fronts are fitted with Neoclassical hardware; a pair of ring pulls flanking a bow-tied wreathed escutcheon within their center. Carved flower-head medallions embellish the squared side panels, and along the skirt- which is has a repeating pierce-carved linked-circle motif with petite bead trim. This period Neoclassical French chest, with its marble top, bowed-front, and elaborate carvings, will make a fabulous storage and display option for an entry foyer, bed or living room.
