French Regence "Linen-fold" Commode, 18th C | Item# 1362

A French Regence period beautifully-carved walnut chest of drawers, with its original hardware, from the 18th century. This gorgeous antique commode from France has been exquisitely carved with a serpentine 'linen-fold' design which goes from the top front edge and conforms onto the three graduated drawers housed in the case below. The drawers are fitted with their original (and quite attractive might we say!) metal hardware. The front side posts are rounded with oblong recessed panels and a carved medallion adorning their top. The case is flanked by deeply recessed panels at sides with accolade carved top edges. The skirt is clean and linear with the exception of the linen-fold design that terminates at front center and embellished with a matching medallion as found on the top of the side posts. This piece is presented upon shapely carved petite legs at front that resemble a knee and hooved foot. The walnut is rich and has a lovely patina throughout, as you may expect from a centuries old antique. This 18th century French Regence commode, with its uniquely carved design, will make an elegant statement piece, perfect for a bedroom, entry foyer, or living area.
