French Period Neoclassic Marble Top Buffet
A French Neoclassical period buffet cabinet, with unusual marble top and stunning brass hardware, from the early 19th century. This antique cabinet from France has a rectangular-shaped top with gray marble, resting atop the body/case which houses a pair of small half-drawers set within the top frieze, which slightly overhangs the pair of recessed panel doors below (which open to reveal a shelf and plentiful storage within) and a large diamond-carved stationary center post between them. The doors are flanked by a pair of three-dimensionally carved rounded columns set at each front side post, holding up the overhanging apron above and giving the front a nicely framed effect. The drawers and doors are fitted with fabulous brass Neoclassical hardware, which is especially stunning. The skirt is clean and linear and this piece is lifted upon a pair of rounded front feet with block style feet at rear. The bleached wood finish pairs beautifully with the unusual marble comprised of various shades of gray with hints of pale salmon coloring. Note that there is a round stain and some marking, and small chip at back of marble top (please refer to additional images for more detail). This Neoclassical period French console cabinet is approximately 5.75 feet in length, offering great storage and display opportunities making for a fabulous server or credenza.
