French Period Empire Marble Top Commode
A French Empire period painted commode, with marble top and brass accents, from the early 19th century. This antique chest from France features a rectangular-shaped marble top which rests above a case which houses four graduated drawers (top drawer is hidden within the top frieze), flanked within rounded column-style front side posts with solid brass wrapped accents. The three lower drawers are each fitted with a pair of decorative brass pull hardware (early hardware but unsure if original or not) and a single keyhole escutcheon at center. The skirt is cleanly molded and this piece is presented upon a pair of thickly rounded column legs at front and block legs at rear. There is a light blue painted finish with crackling and a worn patina throughout (not the original finish). This early 19th century French Empire chest-of-drawers is a versatile case piece which would work well in many rooms; offering great storage within and a place for desired objects to be prominently displayed atop.
