French Neoclassic Walnut Commode, 19th C.
A French Neoclassical style carved walnut chest of drawers from the mid 19th century. This antique commode from France features a rectangular-shaped top, above a neoclassical case which houses three small-sized drawers set horizontally over a pair of full-sized drawers, all flanked within flute-carved front side posts, and raised upon conical shaped legs that taper towards their feet. Each drawer is adorn with recessed panels and fitted with rectangular-shaped brass bail-pulls and rococo style escutcheons at the centers (note that hardware is not original). The walnut has a rich medium tone, beautiful patina, and show of wear (most noted at its topside), which one might expect from a centuries old piece such as this, full of history of use. This 19th century French Neoclassic chest would work beautifully in a bedroom, living room, or entry hall- perhaps adorn with a few decorative objects and one of our lovely French antique mirrors hanging above!Dimensions
