French Buffet à Deux-Corps with Secretaire
This Item Is Is SoldA tall French Louis XV style carved and bleached wood display and storage cabinet with secretary. This vintage cabinet from France is topped with a thickly carved arched bonnet pediment, which perfectly frames the corbeilles de fleurs (basket with bouquet of flowers) which is elegantly carved at center top (above the doors) and sets the tone for the beauty of this piece. This two-part cabinet consists of an upper curio cabinet with wire front doors with adjustable shelving within, atop a fall-front writing desk, and lower cabinet with beautifully carved raised-panel wood doors. The fall-front desk provides an ample writing surface and reveals the three stacked document drawers along each inner side, with open shelving between them. The cabinet is fitted with nicely-decorated brass hardware. The apron is elaborately carved with movement outlined in scrolls and has a pierced shell carving prominently displayed at front center. Cabriole style feet give just enough lift from the ground to show off the lovely skirting. This French buffet à deux-corps cabinet (which literally translates to “buffet with two bodies”) breaks down into two pieces, allowing for easier transport and installation. The wood has been lightly bleached, and the accent trim has a custom cream colored finish.
