An exceptionally handsome Italian chest of four drawers from the early 18th century. This antique cassettiera (chest of drawers) from Italy features a rectangular-shaped top with canted front corners, atop case which houses four graduated drawers, recessed paneled sides, and presented upon volute-carved bracket feet. Each drawer front is adorn with a pair of cartouche style raised panels set within rectangular frames (which give the appearance of it being a pair of drawers instead of a singular drawer) with decorative metal pulls, and an escutcheon set at center. The top drawer has neat little compartments for organizing. The fruitwood has a wonderfully aged patina and antique condition true to its centuries old history. The wood is so dark that it lends itself to having an ebonized appearance. This 18th century Italian chest is quite a handsome piece- and will add a masculine presence within a bedroom, or perhaps find its place within a foyer or living area with decorative items atop and storage within.
