A Moorish carved and raised wood trunk from the 19th century. This antique chest from Tunisia has been designed in an elaborate hand-carved Moorish design about the top lip edge, front facade, front skirt, and the large triangular brackets that attach to the legs at front. The carvings add a nice geometric design and textural element to this piece. The single-board top raises to show open storage within. The trunk sides are nicely dovetailed, and secondary boards continue down to create rail style legs which give good height and open space beneath the chest. The wood has a lovely aged patina throughout; a reflection of its prior history and use. This 19th century Moorish trunk will make a wonderful decorative case-piece to house blankets or keep-sakes, while adding warmth and charm to your home.
