Late 18th C. Italian 4-Drawer Cassettiera

An Italian carved and bleached/painted wood raised chest of four drawers from the turn of the 19th and 19th century. This antique cassettiera (chest of drawers) from Italy features a rectangular-shaped top, over a nicely decorated case which houses two half-sized drawers set above two full-sized drawers (for a total of 4 drawers), flanked within fluted side posts. The flute-carved motif continues down the rear side posts and horizontally along the skirt, which is also adorn with carved flower heads at each corner. The drawers are fitted with brass hardware. This case piece is raised upon round, fluted legs, which taper gently towards their peg-style feet. The newer bleached finish is complimented with a custom wash of cream about the top and to highlight the various trimmings. This late 18th century Italian raised chest would be a beautiful addition to a bedroom, or perhaps in a foyer or living area with decorative items atop and storage within.
