French Wooden Commode w/Neat Brass Hardware
A French carved wood three drawer commode from the 19th century. This antique chest from France has a rectangular-shaped top with subtle scalloped edges about the front and both sides, and prominently rounded front corners. It slightly overhangs the case below which houses three graduated and dove-tailed drawers, each fitted with a wonderful pair of hanging brass ring pulls and a matching circular escutcheon key hole flanked within their center (quite nice hardware!). The front side posts are canted and have fluted carvings with scrolling volutes at their tops in resemblance of a Corinthian column. The chest is presented upon scroll/block style feet, with front feet following the outward cant of the side posts above. The medium tone wood has a lovely patina and there are traces of old black paint found about the bottom lines of the drawers and various trimmings. Please note that we suspect that the back legs have either been replaced or strengthened at one point. This 19th century French commode will make a wonderful decorative storage piece for your bedroom, foyer, or study.
