18th C. French Serpentine Commode, Blue
A French painted and carved wood serpentine chest from the 18th century. This antique commode from France features a slightly overhanging top, with rounded front corners, and curved along the front edge in which to mimic the beautiful lines of the serpentine cabinet beneath. The case houses three graduated and dove-tailed drawers. Each of the drawer is fitted with a pair of decorative metal pulls with an escutcheon at their center. The chest is raised on bracket style feet, with skirt having a swag-carved front, and accolade carvings at sides. The blue painted finish is not original, but is a later painted finish with a fabulously aged patina. Please note that the top is not totally flat and that there have been some prior repairs to this piece. This 18th century French serpentine commode will be a wonderful case piece offering storage within and a place for desired objects to be prominently displayed atop.
