French Neoclassical 3-Drawer Commode
A French Neoclassical style carved-wood chest of drawers from the 19th century. This antique chest from France has a rectangular shaped top, with rounded and emphasized front corners, which slightly overhangs the case beneath. The case houses three dovetailed and graduated, recessed panel drawers, fitted with a pair of rectangular brass pulls flanking a shield-shaped escutcheon at center. Front and side posts are rounded and flute-carved. The chest is raised on toupie style rounded legs. The warm fruitwood has a wonderful old patina. Please note that the top has some warping, and there is a small gap at rear right (which cannot be fixed, but doesn't compromise the integrity of this piece) which can be viewed in more detail in the additional images. This 19th century French commode, with its rich wood grain and Neoclassical touches, would be a great case piece for a bedroom, office or living room.
