Late 18th C French Chest, Fabulous Carvings
A French ornately carved wood chest of drawers from the turn of the 18th and 19th century. This antique commode from France has a rectangular-shaped top with canted front corners, over a case which houses a pair of half-sized drawers atop two full-sized drawers, framed within nicely carved and fluted front side-posts, which are also canted. The raised-panel drawers are fitted with elegant rococo pulls and matching escutcheon at center. The two half-sized drawers are neatly disguised as a single drawer. The skirt is adorn in a fantastic pierce-carved pattern trim about the front and sides. The chest is presented upon squared and fluted legs which taper to their feet. The many carved details and highlights of this piece are simply excellent. This late 18th century French commode will make a spectacular case-piece for a bedroom, living room, or entry hall- perhaps adorn with a few decorative objects and one of our lovely mirrors hanging above.
