French 19th C. Commode w/Fantastic Carvings
A French Neoclassical style, uniquely-carved and bleached-wood chest of three-drawers from the mid 19th century. This antique chest from France features a rectangular-shaped top with canted front corners, which rests atop an elaborately-carved, Neoclassical inspired case that houses three full-sized and graduated drawers, flanked within canted front side-posts (which are adorn with entwining circles and fluted carvings), and presented upon nicely carved squared legs (set in the same angular fashion as the top corners and front posts). The underside of the top edge is embellished with dentil carvings, with petite bead and barrel trim just below that. Each of the drawer fronts are beautifully trimmed with bead and barrel and flute-carving, and fitted with a pair of brass bail-pulls, and an oval brass escutcheon at their center. The skirt is straight with leaf-carved trim outlining the edges. The sides each feature a raised panel design carved with a floral medallion at center, four petite flower heads at the corners, and outlined within a fluted rectangle. The new, custom bleached-finish is complimented with a cream accent color. This mid 19th century French commode, with its unusual carving and great attention to detail, would be a lovely addition to any foyer, living, or bed room space.
