French Neoclassical Four-Drawer Commode
A French Neoclassical wooden four-drawer commode, with column accents, from the 19th century. This antique cabinet from France has a rectangular-shaped top, which slightly overhangs the body/case which houses a single drawer set within the top frieze, which slightly overhangs the lower three full-sized drawers. The drawers are flanked by a pair of three-dimensionally carved rounded columns set at each front side post, (holding up the overhanging apron above and giving the front a nicely framed effect) and are fitted with brass hardware and shield-shaped escutcheons. The skirt is clean and linear and this piece is lifted upon a pair of rounded and tapering front feet with block style feet at rear. The medium tone fruitwood has nice graining and lovely old patina. This19th century French Neoclassical chest-of-drawers will make a wonderful statement piece, perfect for your storage and display needs whether it be in a bedroom, study, or perhaps an entry foyer.
