18th C French Commode w/Vitruvian Wave Trim
A French painted wood serpentine commode, with vitriuvian scroll trim accents, from the 18th century. This antique chest from France has a very softly curved serpentine design at front, which is carried from the top and down the along the three drawers. Each of the drawers, flanked within flute-carved front side posts, are fitted with oval backplate pulls and escutcheons set at center. Case sides have a rectangular-shaped raised panel at center, within fluted front and rear side posts. There is a magnificent vitriuvian wave scroll (running dog) which embellishes the bottom along the skirt, carved along the front and both sides. There is a custom creamy taupe/beige finish which is complimented with a highlighted accent trim. The chest is presented on flute-carved spaded feet. This 18th century French chest would look quite elegant in a bedroom, living room, or entry hall; perhaps adorned with a few decorative objects and one of our lovely mirrors hanging above!
