18th C. French Carved Walnut Commode
A French Neoclassical raised walnut wood chest of two drawers, with fluted accents, from the 18th century. This antique period Neoclassical commode from France features a rectangular-shaped top with canted front corners, which slightly overhands the case below which houses two full-sized decoratively-raised panel drawers, each fitted with a pair of stylish brass Neoclassic ring pulls with urn motif backplate and a rounded escutcheon within their center, flanked within canted and fluted front side posts. Each side has a pair of stacked rectangular recessed panels, and the skirting has a flute carved, rectangular drop down accentuating the center at front and sides. The chest is nicely raised on tapering squared legs, with a flute-carved notch cut-out down each side of the leg. The walnut wood has a wonderfully rich old patina throughout. Please note that there is some separation to the wood at top, along with some tiny dings (barely visible) and light wear. This 18th century French commode will make a handsome and useful decorative storage piece, versatile enough for a bedroom, living room, or entry hall.
