Italian Pair of Painted Wood Commodini
A pair of Italian early 20th century small painted wood commodini. These Italian chests each feature a single door with recess panel which has an arched top, flanked by two scrolls at either side. The top door panels and sides have all been painted in a faux marble. There is a faint diamond shaped cross pattern carved onto the door tops, which appears to be more prominent in one of the chests. The sides of the chests each cant outward, giving wider girth at their backsides. This gives a nicely shaped silhouette, with the top of the chests following in this rhythm, mimicked by their shapely tops. These early 20th century chests are raised slightly with a curvy carved skirt along the front and sides.
