British Colonial Chest w/ Compartments
This Item Is On HoldA British Colonial chest, which could function well as a small coffee table, from the early 20th century. This antique British Colonial keep-sake trunk of jack-wood is nicely adorn with a floral motif brass inlay pattern about it's front-facing side, and further enhanced down each front side corner with inlaid brass corner banding. Perhaps the most special part of this chest is discovered upon raising the top, which lifts to reveal compartmentalized sections, adorn in hand-carved floral and striated line motifs, resembling books placed within the trunk, decorative spines facing up. These individual compartments can be used to hold smaller items, or removed to access the larger, more open storage beneath (see additional images for further detail). This coffer is raised on a base carved with a single arch cut-out along the center of each side. This antique British Colonial coffer is good size to place at the foot of a single bed, as an accent piece within an office or living room, or perhaps used as a coffee table for a small seating arrangement.
