Swedish Fryksdahl Clock w/Curvaceous Body
A 19th century Swedish Fryksdahl clock with shapely body and carved crown. This antique Fryksdahl clock from Sweden has a raised crest, carved in c-scroll with splaying foliage rising out of the top, a rounded head, and diamond and floral carved trimming along the neck. Perhaps the most striking element of this clock is it's fabulously curvy shape! A bulbous teardrop belly is accentuated with swagged trim molding about the waist. The case/belly door has a round-glass window at center as to view the pendulum. This nicely curved clock, typical of the Fryksdahl style, rests on a flat base. This clock has a scraped finish with shades of blue/grey, blue, and taupe, along with wood grain showing through in various areas. This clock would be a wonderful decorative object. Though it retains it's original face and movement, it is not currently in working condition, but can be quartzed to keep perfect time, for an additional cost. A quartz battery would then be added behind the face. The original hands are too heavy to carry the quartz movement, so they would be changed to black hands, similar in style. The clock would then chime (the chime can be turned off even though the sound is quite delightful. A pendulum selected to work with the quartz movement would be added behind the glass opening. This antique Swedish Fryksdahl floor clock would be quite lovely in a living room or entry hall.
