Swedish Fryksdahl Clock w/Chinoiserie Decor
An elegant 19th century Swedish Fryksdahl clock adorn with distinctive chinoiserie nature design and abalone inlay. This antique Fryksdahl clock from Sweden is loaded with decorative chinoiserie throughout, in a playful nature motif of peacocks, birds, flowers, and a fun little cricket fishing for a frog with crab hanging on! This shapely clock is topped with a carved, raised swirl atop a c-scroll and volute headpiece, petite carved flowers flank each neck side, lower belly is defined at the waist with belted molding with scrolled ends, and is raised upon a flat pedestal base with scallop cut-out at front center. This clock is black, with chinoiserie (from 19th century, likely original to this piece) in gold and pearl colors with abalone inlay accents found in various areas. This clock would be a wonderful decorative object. Though it retains it's original face and movement, it is not currently in working condition, but can be quartzed to keep perfect time, for an additional cost. A quartz battery would then be added behind the face. The original hands are too heavy to carry the quartz movement, so they would be changed to black hands, similar in style. The clock would then chime (the chime can be turned off even though the sound is quite delightful. A pendulum selected to work with the quartz movement would be added behind the glass opening. This Swedish 1820's Fryksdahl clock, with it's elegant chinoiserie and curvy shape, would be a standout statement piece, perfect for an entry foyer or living room.
