Northern Swedish Grandfather Clock, 19th C.

Northern Swedish Grandfather Clock, 19th C. | Item# 522

23.25"width 8"depth 87.5"height

An early 19th century Northern Swedish painted wood grandfather clock. This antique floor clock from Sweden (Northern region) features a raised top crest/bonnet with flat top, with face, neck, and belly accented with trim molding, and raised on a curvy base with carved cut-out at center bottom. Hand-made hooks, original to the clock, are found at each side of the head, which were once used to secure the clock safely against a wall. The clock has been scraped to it's original finish, which is primarily a teal blue with burnished orange trim. The circular glass center at belly allows the pendulum to be viewed. This clock would be a wonderful decorative object. Though it retains it's original Mora face and movement, it is not currently in working condition. However, it can be quartzed to keep perfect time, for an additional cost. A quartz battery would then be added behind the face. The original hands are too heavy to carry the quartz movement, so they would be changed to black hands, similar in style. The clock would then chime (the chime can be turned off even though the sound is quite delightful. A pendulum selected to work with the quartz movement would be added behind the glass opening. This Swedish 1820's floor clock will be a handsome addition to any home or office.

Price: $6,440.
