An Early 19th Century Floor Clock, Sweden

An Early 19th Century Floor Clock, Sweden | Item# 543

23"width 8"depth 76.75"height

A Swedish carved wood grandfather clock from the early 19th century. This antique floor clock from Sweden features a rounded head, subtly raised crest, and beautiful raindrop shaped body. Curved molding trim accents about the neck and waist define and give emphasis to the curvature of this piece. The original metal face has hand-painted numbers and delicately stylized hands. The triangular bottom is raised off the floor with scalloped cut-outs along three sides of the skirt. This clock has a scraped finish revealing a soothing and muted color palette, blended with a lot of the natural wood grain showing through, and highlighted about various trim pieces and face. This clock would be wonderful as a decorative object and is not currently in working condition. However, for an additional cost, it can be quartzed to keep perfect time. Should you elect this option, a new quartz battery would be added behind the face. The original hands are too heavy to carry the quartz movement, so they would need to be changed to black hands, but similar in style. The clock would then also chime (the chime can be turned off even though the sound is quite delightful). A pendulum selected to work with the quartz movement would be added behind the glass opening. This early 19th century Swedish long-case clock would be a marvelous addition to any room of your home.

Price: $6,160.
