Swedish Birch Floor Clock, Circa 1763
A Swedish 18th century birch wood clock with rectangular head, circa 1765. This antique grandfather clock from Sweden features beautiful birch wood, linear lines and a bonnet style crest. Its face is decorated with a pewter ring and Roman numerals, dated 1763, surrounded by gilded metal and intricate corner ornaments. The sides of the head are flanked with thin black columns. The door opens to the right and is narrow. The clean, rectangular-shaped bottom has a black colored, scalloped skirt. This clock would be wonderful as a decorative object and is not currently in working condition, but can be quartzed to keep perfect time, for an additional cost. A quartz battery would then be added behind the face. The original hands are too heavy to carry the quartz movement, so they would be changed to black hands, similar in style. The clock would then chime (the chime can be turned off even though the sound is quite delightful).
