A Mexican wedding chest on table top stand from the early 20th century. This antique folk-art trunk from Mexico still retains it's original hand-painted rope and decorative chain banding about the top and bottom of the chest (along three sides), and pair of painted floral arrangements in vases each flank the chest front, with "Maria Castillo" written at center. Yellow/gold paint outlines the lines of the trunk and corners of the table top. The trunk rests upon a table-height base (making this a 2-piece set), and raised on four square turned legs which terminate into more delicate, saber feet. Great, natural patina showing wear consistent with age and history of use. This primitive Mexican trunk has tons of character and would make a great blanket chest.
