Swedish Neoclassic Sofa Bench, Early 19th c
A Swedish Neoclassical style carved-wood sofa bench from the early 19th century. This antique settee from Sweden features a straight back rail atop a beautiful succession of open back splats in curvy x-shaped design (reminiscent of an hour-glass). The sides are flanked with wooden arms that gently swoop down from the shoulders, terminating into scrolls, and supported beneath by urn-carved posts. The wood skirt is a neat and clean, with simple molding. The bench is presented upon four nicely-decorated round, tapering legs with peg feet at front side, and four saber legs at rear. It has been scraped to its original finish- a color palette mostly in white and wheat hues. This Neoclassical Swedish sofa bench would be a classic and sophisticated addition to an entry foyer, living room, or bedroom seating option.
