French Jeweler's Work Bench, Early 19th C.
A French jeweler's work bench table from the early 19th century. This unusual French table was originally used during the early 19th century by a jewelry maker, a work bench for designing. The table features a flat back side with wavy, concave sides and front. Each of these concave sections has it's own doubled drawer (a secondary drawer pulls out just below the upper), which would be used for storing findings and tools. The table top is has a slightly recessed center (which would help keep those precious stones from rolling off onto the floor) and there is a wonderful old patina, reflecting the history and age of this piece. The table is raised on four squared legs with criss-crossed stretchers. One can only imagine the beautiful jewelry that once was designed at this table!
