Naga Tribe Grain Grinding Coffee Table
A Naga table from the late 19th to early 20th century. This primitive table from Nagaland, India was originally use by the Naga tribes of North East India as a grinding table, for grains such as millet. The three holes within the center are where the grains would be held and ground using long poles (see the additional picture to view how this was done at the Konyak festival.) The wood a rich, dark brown with a slight sheen, and has a fabulous old repair along an old crack at it's top (please see images for further detail). This table has been carved out of a single log and has a newer addition of a custom metal feet at eight far end of it's base, adding nice stability and presentation. Please note that the surface is not completely flat. This turn of the century Nagaland grinding table would work well in a space where a long coffee table is needed, as it is perfectly sized at 17" height and over 8 feet in length, making a great statement piece while adding warmth and texture.
