Late 18th C. Spanish Peralada Castle Table
This Item Is Is SoldThis very special table, from the turn of the 18th and 19th century, comes from the the Peralada Castle Museum in Spain. The table was a later copy of the original 16th/17th century table that resided in the Peralada castle. This castle of grandeur stands in the village center of the Empordà plain, in Peralada, Catalonia, Spain, and dates back to the Middle Ages. This piece, a splendid several-hundred year old reproduction of the original, features a slender and rectangular-shaped top (just shy of 10 feet in length) which rests atop an intricately carved apron adorned with two horizontal bandings of hand-carved raised pyramidal-shaped adornment. This exquisite carving is carried through the front side of each of the four legs, as well as the long sides of the box-style stretcher just above the feet. The shorter stretcher sides have accolade style carvings, lending a delicate touch to this otherwise handsomely robust piece. The walnut wood displays a rich color and depth, with old patina throughout; showcasing it's history and age. Please note that the end corners are slightly warped (refer to additional photos for more in-depth detail on condition). This antique Spanish Perelada castle museum table will make a marvelous and empowering statement piece for your home! The tables's slender depth and nearly 10 ft length makes it a great option for a large console table.
