French Oval Gate-Leg Table, Early 19th C.
A French carved and painted oak double gate-leg table from the early 19th century. This antique table from France has an oval-shaped top with two drop leaf sides, than when down, make this medium sized table, a more slender 19.25" width profile, allowing it to function more as a console type table. The top is raised on a nicely-turned frame, with four legs making up a rectangular center with box stretcher bracing, from which a pair of matching carved gate legs swing outward from the center, giving support for the upper leaves when the top is fully extended. This painted wood table has a custom gray/blue wash of color over the top, while the apron and legs are more gray with white trim accents. This early 19th century French gate-leg table would work well as a console or sofa table, with option to extend leaves when extra dining or work space is desired.
