Portuguese Carved-Wood Console, Late 18th C
A Portuguese carved and painted wood console table from the turn of the 18th and 19th century. This antique console table from Portugal has a curvaceous design with a top that is outwardly scalloped at front, convex scallops at each side, a pair of step-out canted front corners, and backside which is flat so that this piece can be placed snug against a wall. The top sits over an elaborately carved apron with oval-plaque style drop down with bottom finial suspended at front, within scrolling leaves, and each side apron adorn in pierced carvings in a foliate motif. The table is presented upon four elegantly curvy legs, braced with a nicely pierce-carved stretcher platform just above their paw-carved feet. As delightful as the carvings is the early hand-painted finish that makes this piece come alive with shades of green, red, and gold. This late 18th century Portuguese table, with its fabulous shape and color, will be a bold, eye-catching statement for your home decor; perhaps that perfect piece for an entry hall.
