Oval Wine-Tasting Table, 19th C. France
A French tilt-top wine tasting table from the 19th century. This antique oval-shaped table from France features a tilt top (which was the signature of wine tasting tables during this time) that is supported with a carved-wood "butterfly" wedge, which turns to either support the top or allow it to be conveniently folded down, creating extra space in a room when needed. It is presented upon a pair of squared legs, and braced between them with a beam stretcher, just above their rail feet. This piece has a warm, medium-tone wood finish with grain visible throughout, and a wonderful old patina, reflective of a piece from the 1800's. This 19th century French Vintner's table would be the perfect addition to a wine cellar, or perhaps used as a breakfast or smaller dining option.
