An Italian 18th Century Pot à feu (Fire Urn) Fragment on Custom Base. This exquisite wooden pot à feu is made of a carved urn decorated with medallions and flower motifs in their center. Springing from the top, a flame. The urn is flanked by two volutes. This wooden ornament is placed on a iron custom made stand. The back is undecorated.The pot à feu motif is an architectural element used from the 16th century but is largely used in classical and baroque architecture (the Château of Versailles features them everywhere on their façade). The volutes are a typical element of the baroque vocabulary.
