New Guinean Dream Mask, Nice Large Size
This Item Is On SaleThis large-sized mask originates from the middle Sepik river region, the Tamanum village of New Guinea. The mask is a dream mask, thoughtfully created, carved, and adorn by an individual of the Iatmul tribe. These masks are though to attract spirits to visit you within your dreams, where the can then instruct you of the things you should know or be doing. This wood carved mask features an oblong carved face with extending nose that becomes a bird at it's tip. It is quite sculptural, with a nose that protrudes out several feet, therefore it might best be displayed over a table or other piece of furniture. There is lovely old paint and patina throughout this vintage mask. This fantastic and unusual Iatmul dream mask would be an excellent decorative piece and conversation starter for a library wall, den or family room.
